A professional athlete's career achievements on the court or field have no bearings on his or her success as a sports analyst or broadcaster. Effective voice technique skills, speech delivery, and camera presence are deciding factors for just how successful a pro athlete can be post playing days.
Sports make up the backbone of American culture. Thousands of professional athletes of all backgrounds work in major sports leagues. The majority of pro athletes experience the height of their athletic prime in their younger years. Most retire from their jobs between 30-40 years of age. This is extremely young compared to those of us in non-sporting careers.
Highly successful professional athletes who become household names have a better chance to capitalize on name recognition. Hence, they possess a much better opportunity at landing post-career work as analysts, broadcasters, and reporters. This leaves hundreds of pro athletes who may not possess the same type of brand equity with less options. In other words, the same doors are not open to them. Therefore, professional development services will benefit pro athletes, especially those who retire or are forced to retire.
The Pro Associates provides professional development services for the career-oriented athlete. The services are tailor-made for the pro player who is willing to invest in career transition. TPA is a resource they can access to help with the necessary preparation.
Our professional development services blend multiple methods and modes of delivery:
*Online Sports Analyst Academy
*Face-to-face coaching
*Videos and courses
*Online Sports Analyst Academy
Only 5% of professional athletes land jobs as sports analysts or in the broadcast booth upon retiring. Star power provides players one year to prove they can be successful in that role. Many big name stars have landed and lost jobs in the broadcast booth. The career-oriented athlete has a much better chance at transitioning into multi-media work when trained by professionals. Our Online Sports Analyst Academy is essential to the athlete auditioning for a sports analyst job or the broadcast booth, because show producers and ad executives love articulate athletes.
Format
Pro athletes who are attempting to make the transition into television work need to possess good written and verbal communication skills, because writing reports and speaking are basically essential parts of the job. This is why extemporaneous analytical skills are so important. Therefore, classes with The Pro Associates will be conducted via video conferences and will emphasize hands-on learning. Each workshop is highly participatory. The instructor favors an interactive approach over a lecture style in order to provide pro athletes with the skills necessary to make a positive impression on any multimedia platform. Player participants spend the majority of the class engaged in voice technique training. Voice technique training includes, but is not limited to impromptu speaking skills, extemporaneous speech delivery, honing articulation, speech dynamics, and cadence. Class exercises are also tailored to address a participant’s speech habits based on his or her regiolect.
Classes are designed to prepare the career-oriented professional athlete to work as a sports analyst or broadcaster. The Pro Associates emphasizes voice technique training, which means each class is participatory.
As a result of each course completion, participants will build on skills necessary to become effective at speech delivery for any multimedia forum.

*Face-to-Face Coaching
Thanks to video conferencing, we are able to provide coaching options for the pro athlete on the road. The Pro Associates are capable of providing actionable training from any location in the world, by phone or laptop. This has its advantages. However, some clients prefer face-to-face contact. In fact, face-to-face interaction is more helpful than video courses.
Format
We have three coaching options for the career-oriented athlete: 1) One or two coaches meets you, 2) The University of Houston, and 3) South University in Virginia Beach.
Course Content
The coaching strategies and objectives covered for each class are customized for each pro player. Pro athletes who schedule face-to-face coaching will still target specific skills necessary to be successful in television work. Much like our online courses, face-to-face coaching still follows an agenda that is aligned in linear fashion, and players advance courses after showing mastery in a specific skill. Each individual class involves skills that build on the next. Mastery in one course is required before moving to the next class. However, face-to-face coaching provides clients with the option of switching back to video conferences.
