Professional Development Services for Students

Students on a career track to work in the sports industry have more options than ever before. Athletes are not the only ones earning roles on sports teams. The Pro Associates encourages students of all backgrounds to learn more about careers involving the business end of sports.

The Pro Associates introduces students to the expanding career options in sports business—a $250 billion-a-year industry that is rapidly becoming one of the fastest-growing enterprises in the world. Our team of sports agents, instructors, and professional athletes provide a behind-the-scenes look at the sports industry to explore how events on the court, field, and the front office, are linked to executive meetings, advertising, and player movement.

Our professional development services offer 3 tiers of delivery:

*Sports Management Academy (Both Online and On-Campus)

*Media Training for Student Athletes

*Workshops

*Sports Management Academy (Both Online and Campus Visits)

Michael Chamblain, a certified NBA Agent, reached out to The Pro Associates years ago as a professional athlete seeking to hone his public speaking skills. Already an accomplished lecturer, he was looking for a refresher course. This connection led to Michael joining the firm’s Speakers Bureau. This in turn led to a collaboration with The Pro Associates and Michael writing a book, “Sports Management Notes.” The pro player, sports agent, and partial owner of Bnei Herzliya, an overseas basketball club, teamed up with TPA to form a Sports Management Academy. The mission of the academy is to encourage students of all backgrounds to become more aware of the business side of the sports industry.

Format

This program is for high school seniors and college students who want to examine ways to gain entry into the sports industry. Students will study the scope of the sports industry and will be introduced to sports management career opportunities. Students will identify the roles, skills, and attributes of sports agents. In turn, students will also be introduced to obstacles, problems, and challenges faced by sport agents.

Upon completion of the Sports Management Academy, students should be able to identify, analyze, and understand issues affecting sport agents and their roles in pro sports.

Students enrolled in the Sports Management Academy spend the majority of their class time engaged in a mixture of hands-on activities, lectures, and group presentations. Classes are designed to prepare students for careers as sports agents, executives, and owners of their own ball clubs. The Pro Associates emphasizes speech preparation, which means each class involves student speech presentations.

Throughout the course of the academy, students will have the opportunity to explore the following topics:

         Sports Agent Duties and Responsibilities

*Media Training for Student Athletes

Student athletes who are considered prospects can raise their stock with proper interviewing skills. There is no way around it. Star players are interviewed, and the media can control much of their narrative. Student athletes who possess the ability to effectively navigate interviews are in a better position to control their own narrative. In fact, the better a student athlete presents him or herself in front of cameras, the higher his or her stock. This is why our services are important for the high school student athlete seeking scholarship offers from division one programs as well as the college student athlete garnering attention from professional sports clubs. Articulate student athletes make a better impression on scouts and media journalists.

Format

The Pro Associates provides group and individual on-camera media training. This includes social media training, and we offer the program to student athletes and their coaches. Our experience is based on 20 plus years of public speaking training, so our modified approach trains student athletes and coaches to speak in front of the camera with a comfortable presence. Our training techniques are employed to help the student athlete remain calm and in control during interviews.

Course Content

Oftentimes, the biggest challenge for student athletes when speaking to the media is remaining calm in front of a camera. Another challenge is being able to stay focused on one particular message. This is why The Pro Associates helps student athletes prepare for press conferences and one-one-one interviews. Student-athletes from all sports are trained in an intensive workshop that covers the following:

Speech Technique Tips

One-on-One Interview Training

Press Conference Practice

Duration: 90 minutes

Fees: $800 which includes travel and lodging
